First parts of the Friesenbrücke arrived

The construction of the new Friesenbrücke across the Ems is now really taking shape. This week, the first bridge sections arrived on site with the help of a floating crane. A milestone for the Wunderline! The new bridge restores the rail connection that has been interrupted since 2015 and makes rail travel between Groningen and Bremen possible again.

The first part of the bridge arrived on site last Monday. A part no less than thirty meters long and weighing three hundred tons. In the course of the week, three more parts followed and in the fall another part is planned. The highlight of the new Friesenbrücke - the 145-meter-long turning section - is expected to be installed in December. For this, the Ems must be dammed in. The new 335-m-long Friesenbrücke will soon be the largest lift-turn bridge for rail traffic in Europe.

View work on site

To meet the growing interest in the new bridge, Deutsche Bahn has built a viewing platform on the embankment on the Westoverledingen side. The viewing platform allows visitors and local residents to view the construction work safely. The viewing platform is open to the public 24 hours a day. In addition, interested parties can visit the Wunderline and Friesenbrücke infobox by appointment.
